Suncheon City will host the 8th Maegok-dong Tammae Festival on March 7 at the Tammae Hope Center in Tammae Village, located in Maegok-dong, under the theme “Spring Announced by Red Plum Blossoms, Culture Beginning in the Historic Downtown.”

Tammae Village in Maegok-dong is known for its red plum blossoms, which are among the first to bloom in Korea each year. The festival celebrates the arrival of spring beneath the vivid blossoms and highlights the cultural atmosphere emerging from the city’s historic downtown. Suncheon City aims to create an event where residents and visitors alike can linger and enjoy a variety of cultural programs and relaxing spaces.

As the city’s first festival of the year, the event will present intergenerational cultural content reflecting the unique character of the historic downtown. Visitors will be able to experience the season through hands-on programs, live performances set against the backdrop of red plum blossoms and designated spaces designed for rest and relaxation.

Programs connected to the red plum blossoms will include calligraphy workshops, exhibitions featuring plum products, a stamp tour, flea markets organized in cooperation with local shops and craft studios, food booths and additional cultural activities.

In collaboration with local universities, experience booths will showcase programs that make use of the cultural resources of the historic downtown area, offering distinctive content unique to Maegok-dong.

Suncheon City said it hopes the festival will provide an opportunity for people to celebrate the beginning of spring together and help foster a vibrant cultural atmosphere rooted in the historic downtown.
