A traditional confectionery producer based in Dangjin has exported yakgwa to New York, expanding its overseas distribution network. The shipment follows last year’s pilot exports to Australia and the United States and marks a continued presence in the U.S. market for the local food processor.

The shipment includes wheat-based pumpkin yakgwa and sweet potato yakgwa made with locally sourced ingredients from Dangjin. A total of 432 boxes, valued at approximately USD 3,400, were shipped. The export illustrates how regional agricultural products can be developed into value-added processed foods for international markets.

The company has strengthened its production system by combining traditional methods with modern quality and safety standards. It holds several certifications, including a regional brand certification, a government-recognized agro-industrial certification, and halal certification, which support product credibility and broader market access.

A production facility compliant with HACCP standards has also been established, enabling stable output and consistent quality control. This infrastructure allows the company to respond more efficiently to overseas demand while maintaining standardized manufacturing processes.

The export serves as a practical example of how small and mid-sized regional food producers can enter global distribution channels through gradual market expansion and continuous quality improvement. It also reflects the potential for expanding overseas sales of locally sourced processed food products.

Local officials said the continued export demonstrates improving competitiveness among regional food processors and noted that support will continue for strengthening export infrastructure and expanding international market access.
