Yecheon-gun has begun shipping its signature agricultural product, Yecheon chamoe, as this season’s harvest gets underway.
On the 12th, about one ton of chamoe harvested from a farm in Homyeong-eup was sent to the Andong Nonghyup Agricultural Products Wholesale Market. Starting on the 20th, more local farms are expected to join the harvest, with shipment volumes projected to increase steadily.
The Yecheon Saeum Chamoe Growers’ Group, which plays a central role in local production, consists of 28 members cultivating chamoe across 15 hectares in Homyeong-eup and Yongmun-myeon. Farmers are focusing on stable production and consistent quality based on their accumulated cultivation expertise.
The first variety shipped this season is “Hanistar,” known for its high sugar content and crisp texture. At the Andong Nonghyup Agricultural Products Wholesale Market, 10-kilogram boxes were trading between 85,000 and 100,000 won.
Meanwhile, a specialized early-season cultivation complex for chamoe is being developed to improve production efficiency and ensure a more stable supply of high-quality fruit. Yecheon-gun Agricultural Technology Center said it will continue providing technical guidance and on-site support so that Yecheon chamoe can further strengthen its position as a key income crop for local farmers.
