Children’s laughter and a steady stream of tourists brought new energy to winter in Danyang. Danyang-gun announced that the “1st Danyang Winter Fun Festival,” held from the 23rd to the 25th along the Jungnyeongcheon Stream in Daegang-myeon, concluded successfully with strong visitor turnout.
Throughout the festival, the area was bustling with children enjoying ice sledding, families taking part in traditional games, and tourists capturing scenes of fire performances on camera. Many visitors said they had discovered a new side of Danyang’s winter charm, highlighting the lively atmosphere of the event.
Tourists actively joined a wide range of winter activities, including ice sledding, spinning-top games, Jwibullori (traditional fire play), and Nakhwa Nori (falling spark fire performances), fully immersing themselves in the seasonal experience. In particular, the nighttime Jwibullori and wish-making Nakhwa Nori became signature moments of the festival. As glowing sparks illuminated the winter night, visitors naturally paused to take in and share the scenery together.
Food and hands-on programs also encouraged visitors to stay longer. Warm snacks such as udon noodles and fish cakes, along with roasted sweet potatoes, peanut bread, and do-it-yourself grilling experiences, received positive responses, with many describing the venue as cold yet hard to leave. Booths selling local agricultural and specialty products also drew steady interest, naturally linking festival enjoyment to local spending.
Above all, the festival stood out as a participatory winter event rather than one centered on passive viewing. Scenes of adults and children enjoying the ice together symbolized new possibilities for Danyang’s winter tourism.
Building on this success, Danyang-gun plans to continue expanding winter stay-oriented tourism content, accelerating its transition into a year-round tourism destination.
