Yangju’s Nam-myeon Residents’ Council has completed the “Dancing Pinwheel Picnic Trail” as part of a community-led project. The project installed a color-coded pinwheel guidance system along hiking trails around Gureumjae on Mount Gamaksan, along with new photo zones and rest areas.

Gureumjae is known as a popular sunrise viewpoint, but multiple trail entrances have often made navigation confusing for visitors. To improve wayfinding, the existing pinwheel guidance system was expanded to additional routes. Along the second trail, 300 orange pinwheels were installed, while 100 pinwheels in a Korean flag design were placed along the third trail at intervals of about three meters. On the first trail, damaged yellow pinwheels were repaired and additional units were added to strengthen trail guidance.

A nature-friendly photo zone and 15 benches were installed midway along the trail, allowing hikers to rest and take photos during their walk.

Members of the residents’ council, local community groups, and residents took part directly in installation and maintenance. Regular inspections and ongoing maintenance will continue to help keep the Gureumjae area safe and comfortable for visitors.
