A stay-type healing destination taking shape along Jideungsan, overlooking Chungju Lake and the Namhangang River.
Chungju City said on the 14th that construction of “Geonji Noeul Forest,” a new healing destination designed for visitors to relax and reconnect with nature, is progressing smoothly, with an opening planned for the first half of this year. The site is expected to become a new attraction offering a quiet retreat from everyday urban life.
The project focuses on the Jideungsan area, where sweeping sunset views unfold at the point where Chungju Lake meets the Namhangang River. By combining scenic landscapes with experiential and wellness-oriented spaces, the city aims to create a distinctive tourism destination that blends nature and emotional well-being.
Construction began in July 2024 and is scheduled to be completed in the first half of this year, followed by a trial operation period before its official opening.
Geonji Village has long been known as one of Chungju’s most scenic sunset viewpoints. At dusk, warm colors spread across the lake and river, attracting visitors who come to enjoy the tranquil atmosphere and changing light.
Rather than limiting the area to simple sightseeing, the city plans to expand the experience into spaces for reflection and relaxation. Planned facilities include an LP experience hall, a meditation space, and sunset viewing platforms, allowing visitors to slow down and enjoy the surrounding scenery in a calm setting.
A sunset walking trail and uniquely designed accommodation facilities will also be introduced, encouraging longer stays and transforming the area into a stay-focused destination where visitors can unwind amid forest landscapes and glowing evening skies.
Once completed, Geonji Village is expected to evolve beyond a scenic viewpoint into a comprehensive healing destination where nature and emotional comfort come together.
Meanwhile, Chungju City plans to continue strengthening its tourism infrastructure this year, including remodeling the third floor of the experiential tourism center into a workation hub and upgrading themed spaces using the city’s character branding. These efforts aim to revitalize the local tourism industry and create distinctive tourism content unique to Chungju.
