I walked along the Tando Badatgil(Sea Road), which stretches from Tando Fishing Village in Ansan to Nueseom Island. Along the path, huge wind turbines stand tall against the wind, and in the distance, the lighthouse observatory on Nueseom Island comes into view.
At the entrance, a sign marks the start of the Tando Sea Road. This tidal path, revealed only when the water recedes, connects this point to Nueseom Island.
The path stretches across the wide-open tidal flats, and between the sky and the sea, the wind turbines make the scenery along the road even more striking.
In the distance, two rocks stand side by side on the tidal flats.
A fork appears in the middle of the sea road. The left path leads toward the wind turbines and Nueseom Island, while the right path stretches out to the tidal flats where rocks can be seen.
From the path leading toward the rocks, I captured the view of the wind turbines and Nueseom Island.
The exposed tidal flats are filled with small crabs.
The tidal flat seems like a kingdom of small crabs.
When approached, they vanish in an instant into their burrows.
With each step, Nueseom Island draws closer.
Above the forest of Nueseom Island stands a white lighthouse observatory. A pathway leading up to the observatory can be seen.
Rather than heading straight to the observatory, I chose to follow the trail around Nueseom Island.
At the southwestern tip of Nueseom Island, a small pier faced Jebudo Island.
Walking around the island, the sea road comes into view again. As the island is not large, it can be explored quickly.
There was a stairway into the forest at the point facing the sea road.
I continued up the stairs.
As it was not very high, the stairway soon ended, leading into a pine-scented forest path.
Following the forest path, I came to the entrance of the lighthouse observatory.
Though the sun blazed outside, the observatory was kept pleasantly cool by air conditioning, and chilled water was available from the dispenser.
The first floor of the observatory has a rest area, with its walls lined with photographs capturing the Tando Sea Road.
I followed the stairs that led to the upper floor.
View of the indoor observatory on the second floor
I climbed to the third floor of the observatory. The passage to the fourth floor was closed, so this was as high as I could go.
From the third floor of the observatory, Jebudo Island comes into view, with its red lighthouse and pier clearly visible.
The sea road connecting the mainland and Jebudo Island comes into view, with the Seohaerang Cable Car visible in front of it.
In the distance, yachts that departed from Jeongokhang Harbor can be seen.
Full view of the lighthouse observatory
I walked down along the side path of the observatory that I had seen at the start of the trail.
As I descended from the observatory and made my way back to the mainland, I stepped onto the sandbar reaching out from Nueseom Island. It stretches far, as if wrapping around the wind turbines.
The way back to the mainland along the sea road. The scenery of sky and sea, tidal flats and islands, together with the wind turbines, remains long in memory.
